How to Clean Dycem

Simple cleaning methods that integrate into facility SOPs.

How to Clean Dycem®

Cleaning Dycem is straightforward and fits easily into standard data center cleaning procedures. A Dycem surface may appear dirty between cleanings. That is often a sign that contaminants are being captured and held rather than redistributed. Routine daily cleaning helps restore performance without replacement or disruption.

For regular maintenance, use a clean flat mop with a neutral or mildly alkaline, low-foaming cleaning solution diluted according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Suitable products should clean effectively without leaving a heavy residue. Avoid waxes, polishes, solvent-based cleaners, abrasive chemicals, or products designed to leave a coating on the surface, as these may affect Dycem’s performance. Allow the surface to dry fully before normal traffic resumes.

Cleaning Instructions for Lite Mats

01

For optimum performance, clean Dycem daily. Remove loose debris and ensure the floor is clean and dry before cleaning the mat.

02

Using a flat microfiber mop, clean the exposed floor beneath the mat with slow, straight passes. Allow the floor to dry.

03

Fold the mat back halfway and clean the underside with a damp flat mop or pre-moistened pad. Allow both surfaces to dry.

04

Return the mat to its original position, ensuring it lies flat. Apply Dycem-approved cleaning agent to the mop or use a spray bottle to cover the surface.

05

Using a flat mop, clean the mat with smooth, overlapping passes, working away from the controlled area.

06

Replace the cleaning pad when required and dispose of it according to site procedures. Ensure the mat is clean and dry before resuming traffic.

Cleaning Instructions for Floating Mats

01

For optimum performance, clean Dycem daily. Remove loose debris, then ensure the subfloor is clean and dry before cleaning the mat.

02

Clean the subfloor, agitating with a flat mop, in a vertical direction, and remove excess residue/liquid. Repeat horizontally.

03

Lift the mat and clean the underside with a 70/30 IPA wipe or approved cleaning solution. Allow it to dry before repositioning.

04

Return the mat to its original position, ensuring it lies flat. Apply Dycem-approved cleaning agent to the flat mop or use a spray bottle/pre-saturated wipe to cover the surface.

05

Using a flat mop, move it over the Dycem surface in a ‘S’-shaped motion lifting the retained particulates. Work away from the controlled area.

06

Using a dry flat mop, repeat the ‘S’ motion to collect dirty liquid and dispose of per facility mandated SOPs. For heavily saturated mats, repeat cleaning steps 1-6 until the liquid removed is visibly clear.

Cleaning Instructions for Access Panels

Method 1: Pre-saturated Wipes

01

For optimum performance, clean Dycem Access Panels daily.

02

Clean using a pre-saturated wipe (isopropyl alcohol wipe - 70/30 IPA recommended).

03

Apply pressure and wipe over the surface until dirt is removed. Allow to dry.

Method 2: Spray & Flat Mop

01

Apply Dycem-approved cleaning agent to the flat mop or use a spray bottle to cover the surface.

02

Using a flat mop, clean the surface, working away from the controlled area.

03

Use a dry flat mop, wipe, or squeegee to pick up the excess liquid if necessary.

Cleaning Instructions for Fixed Solutions

01

Clean Dycem mats once per day, or after each shift in high-traffic areas, to ensure optimal performance. Always use a Dycem approved cleaning solution to maintain the mat’s effectiveness.

02

Using a spray bottle, mop, or pre-saturated wipe, apply the diluted cleaner to the entire mat ensuring complete coverage. For larger installations, complete all cleaning steps in sections.

03

Using a squeegee system, such as a Vikan, agitate the surface of the mat to lift the retained particulates.

04

Mats should be agitated in both a vertical and horizontal direction to ensure all contamination is lifted and removed. Start closest to the controlled area and work backwards.

05

Continue to agitate with the squeegee in a horizontal direction, starting closest to the controlled space and working outward.

06

Pull the dirty liquid to the edge of the mat surface using the squeegee. Collect with a sponge, mop, or cloth and dispose in accordance with facility mandated SOP's. For heavily saturated mats, repeat cleaning steps 1-6.

Tips & Advice for Cleaning Dycem® Products

Clean your Dycem mats at least once a day (or as advised by your specialist) with an approved cleaning agent and tools.

After cleaning, make sure to wash out any equipment in accordance with your company's Standard Operating Procedures.

To remove built-up spots of contamination on your Dycem product, you may periodically clean with a 70/30 isopropyl alcohol wipe.

Caution: DO NOT USER concentrated bleaching agents, scouring or abrasive powders, or cleaning machines with stiff brushes. A shortened lifespan or damage to the Dycem surface may occur.

When cleaning a floating mat, make sure to clean the underside of the mat and allow it to completely dry before returning to use.
